i honestly find it kind of sickening and self-centred that so many westerner leftists immediately assumed the only reason the people of hong kong were protesting was because of western imperial influence and not, you know, the fact that student protest has been a vital part of modern chinese history and the tiananmen square massacre as well as the impact of deng xiaoping.
