lando's thoughts on mcl upgrades, regs tweaks (again) and mcl not being at the "front", ahead of this weekend | f1 miami gp 2026 (30.04.26)

q: hello lando, we're back at it at the miami international autodrome. i want to start by talking about upgrades. two years ago, a very upgraded mcl led to your first victory in f1. many victories have come since but the car you're going to drive this weekend, are you hopeful that it will put you in contention or more in contention with merc? lando: we hope so, but let's wait and see. we know everyone has upgrades this weekend, so i don't know. we're confident it will help us move in the right direction but umm in terms of quantity, how much we'll catch, how far off we'll still be... yeah... we'll just wait and see. so it's a new package and we'll make sure our job really is just to get the maximum out of that.

q: we have a small tweak in the regulations. do you feel that this is in the right direction and is there something that you would like to propose for the future to change? lando: yeah, many things but nothing that we can really change. it's a step in the right direction but it's also a lot of things we just have to get used to. the qualifying should certainly be a bit better. the race, nothing really changes. so it's in the right direction, but it's also not just about what we want as drivers. you also have to please teams and the bosses and other companies and all of these kind of people. so there's plenty of things and i think everyone is pretty aligned in saying there's a lot of things that people want in the future but whether that's in one year, two years, three years time, we don't know. so for the time being, i think we're taking some steps forward, but hopefully it's the first of many.

q: we had a long chat with andrea. do you, like him, expect a considerable leap like 2024 for you and the team from here on out? lando: i hope so. i really hope so. it's hard to know, i think. honestly, i think that's when we were really a lot further behind and we were just moving in the right direction. i think now we're far behind, but it's not like we got the wrong philosophy of the car or something, it's just we're a bit underdeveloped. that's really it. how much it will help us? we don't know. i don't know how far we were in a race situation last time out in japan, it was almost a second lap in the race. so if we're a second off here, it's all that we've taken a step forward (T__T) i think you have to see that everyone else is probably going to have upgrades and things to improve their car. we have to understand how much we've caught relative to them and if we're on the right track. this will be an upgrade, that's hopefully the start of many more into the future and obviously some bits for next weekend as well. let's just wait and see.

lando's interview ahead of miami race week pt.2

c: is it an opportunity to catch up? has this month been that? is there stuff coming on the car that can close the gap to merc? lando: we certainly hope so 😊😁 there's been a lot of work umm but there's work from every single team on the grid, so it's more can we make bigger jumps than what others are doing and that we'll find out in miami, but the team have been working very hard. we knew we didn't and haven't had the start that we wanted, so we hope it's kind of favoured us a little bit more, but time will tell. c: too early to rule out a successful title defence, far too early, surely? lando: i mean, i would like to think so ofc we've come back from a lot worse in other seasons (ijbol) and still as a team went on to win at constructors, so there's no point ruling it out until that chance is gone. we're still only three or four races in 😊😁 so we're patient. we know we have some good things coming, but we have good competition and we know it'll be tough no matter what we just have to keep our heads down and keep focussing on ourselves, that's all.

c: i am with one of the 100 most influential people in the entire world. not my view, the view of Time magazine, lando norris! lando: thank you 😊 c: congratulations! all that influence and you still can't get out of interviews! lando: i know.. i wish! 😊(gremlando cameo...) c: nevermind but listen great to have f1 back again in a little while. lando: ofc c: and miami, great race for you. get straight into it. what about the hat trick of wins? lando: it would be a dream, of course. i've got good memories in miami, of course. from my first win to our 1 - 2 that we had there last season. it's been an eventful track. because tbh 3 4 years ago was one of our worst tracks of the year. and it became one of our best tracks. so, good memories in miami. i like it as a place as well. so, just looking forward to getting back in the car.

I finally finished Slow River!!! I loved it! I've mostly been reading for school. When I don't have a lot of mental bandwidth (which is most of the time), I've been reading The Carrion Throne by Chris Wraight lol, it's fun, which is what I'm looking for from a wh40k book.

I think this was Undertone in theaters? Honestly it felt like a 10 year old who'd just seen Haunting of Connecticut had cornered me in a room and was riffing on telling their own spooky stories. Made me want to rewatch Saint Maud, though!

Currently Working On

All of my classes have final projects instead of exams, and because I got to choose my topics myself, I'm excited about all of them and kind of really fucking overextending myself. I'm taking some time between work contracts so it could definitely be worse, but school's pretty much all I've got time for. I've been picking away at my Avowed comic and thumbnailing maybe an Imoen Baldur's Gate comic (or something idek at this point) but not much progress on anything.
