He meant that both figuratively & literally.
Sometimes it did more good than harm to keep more vulnerable things held close, away from prying eyes & instead nestled in safe privacy. But also... in her case, it was probably not a bad idea to double check & make sure certain doors were kept locked - in a way to prevent monsters, internal or real ones, from creeping through & causing more chaos.
Whether she took his advice, how she took it, it was up in the air now - but he'd given his advice & spoken his piece.
