bestie is it just me or does the intro for the scientist by coldplay sound EXACTLY like the piano intro for haunted...
UHHHHHHHH WHAT THE FUCK YOU’RE RIGHT OMG I NEVER NOTICED THAT????? Like it’s EXACTLY the same????? Lmaoooooo that’s insane how it’s the same notes or chord progression or whatever and everything. It’s funny cuz When Emma Falls In Love is also a bootleg, instrumentally and the cadence with which she sings it, of Drops Of Jupiter lol. So safe to say, Speak Now was her figuring out what sounds she likes through trying on her most prominent influences and seeing how they fit. There’s pop punk on that album as well and so to me, that album was always like a sonic sketchbook where she was figuring out what HER sound was gonna be. But now even more so now that I can add this to the list. It makes sense why critics and fans don’t care for it as much, as it’s not as cohesive as others. but it’s from such a fun stage in her creative process and journey, I’ll always love it because of how experimental in sound it is. Red is equally as much a mishmash of influences and sounds and is maligned for that same reason, I’d say.
It’s always fun when she wears her influences on her sleeve like even to this day she still explores new sounds in the footsteps of her influences, however subconsciously. My fav in recent memory is how you can hear Mirrorball is very influenced by Stolen by Dashboard Confessional. Even down to mirroring (lol) the lyrics “spinnin in my highest heels love” / “watch you spin around in your highest heels”. Which is lovely I think, and not really a ripoff but a subconscious homage! A real treat when an artist reveals a little bit how their influences shaped their own artistic style. Artists are consumers just like everyone else and it’s fun to be reminded of that.
