SO5s want to live up to intellectual ideals. They feel bored with ordinary life and people, and seek higher meaning. They do this through collecting knowledge and being a totem of knowledge for others. They often have intellectual heroes they want to live up to, but they tend to dehumanize others in their pursuit of intellectual greatness. They're the most cold and arrogant of the E5 subtypes. They're very conscious of social hierarchies and want to have a high social standing, but despite this they feel uninteresting.
SX5s want complete union with another person. They idealize romance and because of this they hold their partner to high standards, wanting the relationship to be the perfect one they envisioned in their head. They’re highly withdrawn and distrustful, and long for somebody they can fully trust and feel safe with. They avoid social interaction for fear of being hurt, but when they finally let their guard down, they exhibit a more vivacious side. They expect their partner to let their guard down just as much, due to their intense need for trust.
SP5s want to shield themselves from the world. They feel overwhelmed by the demands of life and other people, and due to this they retreat and hide, watching the world from the sidelines. They need a refuge to feel safe in. They're prone to hoarding, fearing a lack of resources. Despite this anxiety around survival, they try to get by on very little, denying their needs because they feel this is what gives them autonomy. They also place great emphasis on conserving their energy. They're obliging to the requests of others, not wanting to expend energy on conflict, but they're secretly resentful, often feeling used and abused.
