Didn’t want to clutter moots post I just reblogged so I’m writing it out here.
The way people keep often replying have you ever seen a woman do this job before whenever someone thinks of doing it to discourage them is one of the most annoying things ever.
The reason you don’t often see women in those positions is because it’s only recently that they’ve been allowed to reach the level of education and had the freedom needed to do so.
The reason we only have 3 female surgery professors (aka senior consultants) in a faculty exceeding 200 surgery professors is that they were the only ones brave enough and tough skinned enough to take the first steps and pave the way for more of them to do this.
The current batch of surgery residents is around 20-30% female that’s a huge improvement.
