GUYS, WORDGIRL IS FROM THE PLANET "LEXICON"
Some Lysander angst to enjoy because something absolutely destroyed me today (vampires smp) and I need to make this man suffer more anyway :D (heheh)
(and yes I am planning on implementing more)
It doesn’t matter that he’s “back.” Chiroptera — the true Chiroptera — is dead and Lysander is mourning him. ‘Nycteris’ is there assuring him that he’s back, and he’s alive — he is Chiroptera — but he’s different and Lysander can see it. Direct quote from Rowan (I love the wording): “if Lysander realises it IS Chiroptera. But that he’s no longer the man he fell for. The man who put a ring on his finger. This is someone different now. And the Chiroptera he knew us never coming back.” Chiroptera is still dead to him.
I had it somewhere that some of Chiroptera's mannerisms and facial features reminded Lysander of Cassius. Well, now that Chiroptera is different… guess who he closely resembles. Caspian! Aside from his orange hair and different memories, Nycteris is a near perfect clone of Cassius. It’s like it’s transporting Lysander back in time. He spent decades wishing to have his best friend back and now it’s almost like he does, but losing the only person he ever truly loved instead.
It hurts to look at Chiroptera now (or rather, Nycteris). Again, he reminds Lysander so much of Caspian. Caspian who Lys had to watch burn to death. Chiroptera who was staked in front of Lysander’s eyes. Both killers looking at him with a twisted grin on their faces. Their similarities and the parallels with their deaths.
This boy is SO isolating himself. He has two jobs now and because of that he’s working constantly. He’s almost never at the manor anymore and he definitely is staying or planning to stay with other acquaintances. When he isn’t working, he’s either trying to get high or get drunk (neither work because vampirism) or finding another person to beat him senseless just so he can feel something other than hollow agony. He imagines every kill he marks as either himself or the hunter that had staked Chiroptera.
On the rare occasion that Lysander sleeps in the manor, he hugs Nycteris — clinging to him as he tries not to cry. The rest of the time (though again, he barely sleeps) he curls up on his own, singing himself to sleep with the songs that he and Cassius had made up.
