analyzing the mise en scene of a show/film is fun because it’s meant to tell you more about a character and their environment. was looking through screencaps of angel’s first apartment in sunnydale

which! a big thing is the lighting. there’s multiple lamps, which highlight his vampirism as he can’t really have sunlight as a light source for his apartment, so he has to turn to artificial light. something else that jumps out is the art, such as the pieces that are all along the wall above his desk, the various little statues and sculptures on his desk, and the statue in the glass. he obviously appreciates art and is shown to be an artist himself which we only get to see on buffy during the angelus arc. he also has a lot of books and multiple bookshelves, so he obviously enjoys reading. since he’s a vampire and has been alive for centuries, books seem like a valuable way for him to pass the time and he’s shown to be knowledgeable about things like demonology and linguistics. note how there doesn’t seem to be a television- he isn’t as modern and connected to the current world like vampires such as spike. he has a desk with messy papers on it, perhaps he writes or journals as well, or those could be art pieces
