Deltarune chapter 5 normal route spoilers/analysis because apparently I was locked in this entire time and I have some things to say about Flowery and Ralseiâs relationship. And some Flower talk as well
The Flowers are interesting cause they are beings that arenât alive the same way as most other Lighteners, and are not dead objects like most other Darkeners. Because of the fact that they had a consciousness even while they were in the light world they were able to choose their own body and make their own dreams come true, which makes them somewhat of an outlier in comparison to most other darkeners, who most likely werenât able to choose their appearance to begin with because they arenât alive in the light world.
And because of their ability to choose their appearance, Floweryâs(and by extension the Flowersâ) whole existence breaks what Ralsei believed Darkeners should be. Because instead of keeping their form and playing their role out as Flowers, they instead try to become real human beings, with their own hopes and dreams and desires. It challenges how Ralsei sees Darkeners as a whole, whose supposed purpose was to serve the Lighteners in a way that parallels their light world counterparts. Because if these flowers were able to have free will and choose to be a person and put their whole heart into caring for a Lightener beyond what Ralsei believed to be appropriate, what does that say about him? What does that say about the other Darkeners by extension? That they also have some level of free will and care for the Lighteners that âdead objectsâ supposedly shouldnât have for âreal peopleâ?
Flowery is everything Ralsei hates. He is the antithesis to Ralseiâs belief of what Darkeners should be acting like. Unlike Ralsei who hides his meta knowledge about this world to the group in fear of what the prophecy may come, Flowery just tells Susie point blank of what those buttons would do. But at the same time Flowery has something Ralsei desperately desired: freedom. The freedom to choose and do whatever they want despite the on-going threat that is the prophecy. Flowery fought until the very end, and being one of the toughest opponents despite being just a flower in real life. And although both Flowery and Ralsei plays into this persona to keep to peace, Flowery just wanted to dream a little more and be a person for a little longer, while Ralsei wants to follow the prophecy without trying to stray away from it. Ralsei seems to take the prophecy a lot more seriously than Flowery, which is probably what pisses Ralsei off. Because Flowery, despite having the same amount of awareness as Ralsei, chose to just. Not do anything about it. But instead he just faced it head on without fear, despite the prophecy talking of his unavoidable demise. And I think as much as Ralsei is frustrated towards Flowery(and by extension, his existence as a whole) he is just. Really jealous of how fearless he could be. How he and the rest of the Flowers were able to choose their own identity and they chose to be a person, even if theyâre rather clumsy at it.
