More Pride Dash Icons!

It’s almost that time of year again, so here are some free pride themed dash icon PSDs for your use! You can check out my previous batch of pride icons here.

To use the template, paste your image where indicated (creating a clipping mask if necessary -- right click the layer for that option), then use the visibility toggle on each flag layer (that looks like an eye) to make the flag of your choice visible.

Each has the option to display up to two flags -- the flags included are gay, POC inclusive, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, polyamorous, transgender, genderfluid, genderqueer, polysexual, agender, aromantic, and nonbinary. Additional flags can be added by pasting them into the relevant folder with the others, resizing appropriately, and creating a clipping mask (right click on the layer and hit Create Clipping Mask).

Carrd Tutorial - “Sliding Open”

While messing around in Carrd, I accidentally stumbled on an effect that looks pretty cool, where a simple landing page slides open to reveal your content. So I thought I would share how I did it with you! It’s fairly customizable and could be easily tweaked to suit your needs.

This tutorial assumes you have at least a basic familiarity with using Carrd, including adding elements and using controls to set up different pages.

Start with a new site. I like to clear out the text that’s already there and start with a blank slate.

Add two containers to your site and change their background color to be identical.

Select the top container and change the bottom margin to 0. Do the same with the top margin of the bottom container. The two boxes should now be touching.

Think about when the box slides open. Anything you want to move to the top of the screen, place in the top container. Anything you want to move to the bottom of the screen, place in the bottom container. I like having a title at the top and nav links at the bottom, but it’s up to you. Something here needs to include a page link, otherwise you won’t have a way to “open” this box.

Personally I don’t like how much space there is between the title and the buttons, so I’m going to go back to the containers and adjust the padding to be smaller. I changed the bottom container’s padding to 0.25 and the top container’s to 0.75, but it’s whatever looks good to you.

Now add a new control, and change it to header marker. Make sure the margin is set to 0. There will now be a gap in your containers, but that’s only in the preview window. On your actual site it should look fine.

Add another control, and change it to footer marker. It should be just below the header marker. Its margin should also be 0.

Now we need to add some pages using controls. For the sliding effect to work properly, you need to insert an empty page before anything else. Add a new control, keeping it as a section break, and give it any name you want. It doesn’t matter what -- I usually call it home.

The very first section will display by default when first opening your site. By keeping it empty, you’re ensuring that the containers in your header and footer won’t have any gaps between them.

Now you can add your other pages with whatever content you like. I recommend adding a transparent divider line to the top and bottom of every page (except for home, which should always remain completely empty). Because your header and footer don’t have any margins, the boxes will appear right up against your content, and in my opinion it doesn’t look very good.

For comparison, this is how a page looks without those dividers:

Much better, don’t you think?

To make a transparent divider, first add a regular divider. Then in the color selection, use the gray slider underneath and drag it all the way to the left. This will make the line entirely transparent, functioning as a spacer.

Last but not least, select your entire page. You can easily get it by using the dropdown menu in the top right, and selecting page. In the slide out menu on the left, select the second icon at the top, which looks like a play button. This is your animations menu.

Under On Load, change the dropdown to Fade In. Do the same under On Section Change. (On Elements doesn’t really matter.)

Publish your site and watch the magic happen! I hope this has helped you!

Holiday Dash Icon Pack

A simple circular dash icon template with a white border and the option for nine different holiday symbols. Can be combined with another user’s coloring PSD, as long as it’s in accordance with their guidelines.

Holiday symbols are from FavPNG, PNGItem, ClipArtMax, Clipart-Library, NicePNG, CleanPNG, and VHV.rs. You can also add your own symbol by placing it in the same folder as the rest and resizing it to match.

Be sure to save your final image as a PNG to keep the transparency!
