anyway, trying to work on a Gary and Stranger comic that's been in my head for ages, but the fact these are the two most difficult characters to draw for me (not counting Shifty or MAD) is making me procrastinate it so much ajajsmsjmszkmssm

Jonah and Lancelot’s Bouquets

In their 5th birthday cards, the suitors are shown holding bouquets like these:

And the flowers they’re holding are different for each person, so I thought to do a little analysis on them. And I’m only doing Jonah and Lancelot right now bc I’m not an expert on flowers, but if this works then I might do more in the future!

NOTE: all of the below flower meanings are taken from Japanese websites, bc Ikerev is originally Japanese and I thought that the Japanese flower meanings would suit them more. I know that different flowers can mean different things across different cultures, so please understand if the meanings I gave are different from what you generally associate with those flowers!

General

I thought that their bouquets are a little more organized than the rest. I mean, some of the bouquets have flowers that are sorta all over the place, but Jonah’s and Lancelot’s both have a center and then some other flowers surrounding it. This probably ties in to how the Red Army is more structured.

Jonah

Pink tulips are front and center on his bouquet, and tulips are generally associated with “perfect love.” Looking at Jonah’s perfectionistic nature, I would definitely say that this flower suits him. Pink tulips specifically symbolize “sincere love” and “the sprouting of love." Jonah is known to be a honest and genuine person, and his route is pretty much about falling in love with MC, which fits with the “sprouting of love” thing. 

Next up, we have a ring of white roses surrounding the tulips. At first, I wasn’t sure if they were white or pink, but the yellowish centers eventually convinced me that they were white. These flowers have the meaning of “purity”, “I am deserving of you,” and “deep respect.” 

First just look at this face:

LOOK UP THE WORD “PURITY” IN THE DICTIONARY AND IT’LL HAVE THIS FACE NEXT TO IT HALLELUJAH AND HE’S BlusHInG AS WELL ASDLNVWRI;VSAJDSCKVD

But anyways, “I am deserving of you” possibly stands for how he and MC were pretty evenly matched in his route, and “deep respect” can either refer to how much MC admires him for his nobility or it could mean how much Jonah respects his King. 

Then, there’s the orange lilies that mean “radiant,” “pleasant,” and “careless.” Again, for “radiant” and “pleasant,” just look at that face. He’s glowing. And when I say “careless,” it means that he’s rather reckless and doesn’t tend to think things through. That fits for Jonah as well, since he often acts in the spur of the moment and sometimes says things without considering the consequences (like when he’s insulting Sirius in a meeting between the two armies and disregarding how it might start a war).

Finally, we have baby’s breath, which means “innocence,” and I would agree that Jonah is very innocent, especially when he’s eating sweets and being around MC  (* ^ ω ^). Also, there’s two sprigs of baby’s breath on top of the bouquet, and the rest are all grouped together at the bottom. This suggests that Jonah only lets a bit of innocence slip through, but deep down inside he’s actually superrr innocent.

Lancelot

Red roses are the symbol of the Red Army, so it’s not really surprising that it would be featured in the King’s bouquet. Red roses, as we all know, mean “I love you,” “beauty,” and “passionate love.” The “ily” part is obvious. Ikerev is all about MC falling in love with the suitors, after all. “Beauty” is also kinda obvious, since Lancelot is a gorgeous man. “Passionate love” could stand for Lancelot and MC’s relationship, since their relationship is built on strong love and trust.

Pink carnations surround the red roses, and they stand for “a woman’s love,” “enthusiasm,” and “a beautiful gesture.” “A woman’s love” might possibly refer to MC’s feelings towards Lancelot, since her love was what saved him in his route. “Enthusiasm” could be about how Lancelot is actually very kind on the inside despite his cold exterior. And “a beautiful gesture” might be about how Lancelot and MC both sacrificed themselves for each other towards the end of his route.

Also, baby’s breath shows up again in his bouquet, along with daisies, and they both mean “innocence.” Something notable is how they’re both scattered around the bouquet, almost hidden amongst the other, bigger flowers (tbh I didn’t even notice the daisies the first time I saw this CG oof). This probably symbolizes how there’s hints of Lancelot’s innocence scattered throughout the routes, such as his fear of needles and how he secretly eats Edgar’s gummies. However, he doesn’t have nearly as much of this flower as Jonah does, so maybe he ended up losing a lot of his innocence during his time under Amon’s control and these are the only he has left.

Finally, he’s holding one white rose. We already discussed the symbolism of the white rose with Jonah, so I’m not going to go into it again. The white rose has a special place in Lancelot’s route, since it snapped MC out of her amnesia and helped Lancelot with confessing to her. It’s also given the meaning of “you are the only one for me” in the game itself. I would say that this flower is a symbol of their love for each other, and the fact that Lancelot is holding it shows how much he values and cherishes that love UwU

Judging by the fact that the Ardoni were described as ‘rock-like’ I don’t think he could get stung

But maybe he just really doesn’t wanna risk it

Or a fleshy friend got stung and he was fuckin horrified/swore vengeance on all bees

I mean, did you see the first scene between him, Sen and Ria?

He’s wise because of experience but not the smartest either

Like, he can tell you where to forage for berries but he doesn’t know how red stone works

Doesn’t mean he can’t give good advice

Unfortunately he ends up sounding really vague totally by accident

Because of this, everyone thinks he’s this Wise, Sage Mentor who Totally knows what going on

Probably the only Ardoni with a taste for meat

Now hear me out

I don’t remember a scene where Sen ate anything but bread and fruit

Also all of the Ardoni clans were shown to live in close harmony with nature & there were no cattle pens or livestock in the area

Not to say that Ardoni can’t eat meat, but maybe it’s a common practice to just not

Thalleous probably got a taste for it durring the war because fresh fruits & bread were hard to come by, but hunting wild pigs wasn’t

Probably brings some to the kids that treat beef jerky sticks like candy canes

Wait does that make Thalleous Santa - Sendaris, Sant-darius? SANTADARIS

Really likes exploring & doesn’t enjoy being inactive

He was the only Sendaris - and one of the few Ardoni - that believed a second war was comming

Maybe was also pretty active as a kid, see previous headcannon post

Took up traveling out of a combination of unrest from the war, personal quest to kill the Voltaris and not being content with just chilling in a cool hobbit hole

Most Ardoni - especially after the Great War - are family oriented & maintain positive relationships between extended families

And those familes can get Big

Thanksgiving is a nightmare in an Ardoni household
