Something wasn’t right but Y/N couldn’t put her finger on it properly. Maybe it was how hard Bruce was pounding into her. Or maybe it was his hand around her throat. Whatever it was, it made her feel like she wasn’t in control and needed to get out. Whatever libido she had was completely gone, her breath starting to shorten, her heart pounding in her ears as her panic started to rise.
Worst of all, she felt bad for wanting to stop. She wanted to see if she could handle Bruce being rougher with her, and she didn’t want him to think that she was too weak or too sensitive to handle being with him. The rational part of her brain told her that Bruce wouldn’t think any less of her for not wanting to be rough in bed and she needed to tell him to stop, but her emotions were too overpowering.
“R-red,” she croaked. “Red.”
Bruce immediately halted his movements and removed his hand from Y/N’s throat as he pulled out of her. He moved completely off her as he caught his breath and gave her space to gather herself.
“You okay?” he asked tenderly, trying to not upset her any further. “What’s wrong?”
Y/N shook her head. “I don’t know,” she said, trying to stop her voice from shaking. “Sorry.”
“You don’t need to be sorry,” Bruce said as he inched towards her. “It’s okay to not know and you did the right thing by saying you wanted to stop.”
She didn’t say anything and kept her eyes away from him, feeling too vulnerable to look at him. She felt the mattress dip when he shuffled closer to her again and lay down next to her.
“Can I hold you?” Bruce asked, close enough for her to hear but just distant enough to not make her uncomfortable.
Y/N nodded and rolled over into his arms, buried her face into his chest and let him gently wrap his arms around her. Her body relaxed against his as he stroked his palms up and down her back and sides, calming her down and soothing her frayed nerves.
“You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to,” Bruce said softly, “but I want to know what I did wrong. What can I do better.”
“You didn’t do anything wrong,” Y/N said, her voice muffled by his warm skin. “You did exactly what we agreed on, but something told me that we had to stop.”
“Okay, then we don’t have to do that anymore if you don’t want to.”
“Sorry,” Y/N said softly as Bruce started to play with her hair. “I didn’t want to disappoint you.”
“You haven’t disappointed me, sweetheart,” Bruce soothed and held her tighter to him. “You’ve never disappointed me.”
“Then why do I feel like I have?”
Bruce felt his heart sink for her. When he’d suggested being a little rougher he didn’t think it would end like this. Y/N had reassured him multiple times that she would be able to handle it and that she wanted to do it for him, so he understood why she was being so hard on herself. He secured his hold on her and turned over to sit up with her in his arms, facing each other.
“Listen to me, Y/N,” he said, his voice soft and warm like honey. “You haven’t disappointed me. I’m not upset that you wanted to stop. I’m actually glad that you said you wanted to stop.”
“Really?” Y/N asked in a small voice.
“Yes, really,” Bruce said and tenderly kissed her forehead. “I know you’re feeling a lot of things right now, but I just want you to know that you haven’t done anything wrong. Okay?”
“Okay,” Y/N said before attempting a smile, her whole body tired from what had just happened. Bruce kissed her forehead again before pulling her into his chest again.
“C’mon,” he said. “Let’s go do something else, you need some pampering.”
“Sounds like a good idea,” Y/N said as Bruce swung his legs over the side of the bed and set his feet on the floor.
“How about we take a bath and go raid the kitchen after?”
“Now that sounds like an even better idea.”
Bruce stood up with Y/N in his arms and carried her into the bathroom where he set her down and started to run the water for their bath. It was quiet for a while before Y/N spoke up again.
“Bruce?” He hummed in response. “Thank you.”
“You don’t need to thank me, honey,” he said and crossed the short distance to embrace her. “I just want you to be comfortable with me.”
“And I am,” she said as she returned his hug and rested her head on his chest. “I’ve never been more comfortable.”
