THE HATHAWAY FAMILY WAS KNOWN throughout Kildare Island for their wealth and position as partners at the most reputable law firm on the island. They were one of the wealthiest families on Figure Eight, and their two children were top of their peers in every respect. If there was a contest or competition, Victoria and Charlie Hathaway would win by a landslide no matter what. AS THEY GREW UP, THE HATHAWAY SIBLINGS changed more than they’d care to admit. Where Victoria used to be the perfect child who never dared to put a toe out of line, by the time she turned seventeen, she wanted nothing less than to taste a bit of freedom. There was something about the idea of rebellion that made her want it more than anything else. ENTER JJ MAYBANK, THE BOY FROM HER PARENTS’ NIGHTMARES. First of all, he’s a Pogue and the son of Luke Maybank, one of the people her parents despise the most from the Cut. If she were to ask any of his friends about him, they’d say JJ was the latest in a long line of fishing, drinking, smuggling, vendetta-holding salt-lifers who made their living off the water (Tori would never admit to having asked about JJ, especially when it happened while she was drunk and the answer came from none other than his best friend, John B). HE WAS NOTHING BUT TROUBLE, and trouble never looked so good. There was something alluring about the impulsive nature of JJ Maybank that made Tori want to be less of the perfect daughter and more of a free spirit. If Tori was being honest, she was more intrigued by JJ Maybank than any boyfriend she ever had before. BUT EVEN THE WILDEST DREAMS COME WITH A PRICE, and JJ Maybank is no exception. Victoria Hathaway never expected her fleeting infatuation with JJ to lead to anything more than a hookup, and little did she know that her life would change in the weeks after Hurricane Agatha hit Kildare.
