not really related to the ask you're currently answering, but do you have any favorite asoiaf theories??

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE SECOND HALF OF ASOS. AFFC-ADWD

Robert Strong= Robb Stark’s head + Clegane’s body. Kinda like a Frankenstein monster, Robert Strong is not just Clegane. Qyburn was experimenting, and I think his experiments were far more atrocious than just stitching and bringing back Gregor. Also there’s that tumblr post that said “Stark” in german means “Strong”.

Varys’ a Blackfyre (a follower provided me with the links for this particular theory and I’ve been hooked since). It really is interesting. Definitely puts in perspective everything that Varys has been doing. It’d be kind of cool if it’s like that cause once again it all comes down to bastards and legitimate children. Also to the rivalry between the rights of one and lack of them of the other (actually it would more like the lesser rightful heir).

Cold Hands= Benjen. Yes ColdHands is a NW brother, but which one, right? It’s Benjen. Everyone says that, and I agree. There are more complicated and better theories about it, I just like this one.

Howland Reed= Jojen. Or Howland warged into Jojen. Reason? I don’t know. I’ve read many, but I think mainly Jojen can’t be teaching Bran all of those things, especially how to warg, if he’s not a warg himself. He seems to know a lot more than any 12 year old. 

Dany is not fire proof, the Targaryens are not fireproof It’s a given. Not a theory, not a personal take. GRRM has said the pyre was a one time thing, not an ability the Targs or Dany have. So, what happened in the pyre? Why Dany survived it? How were really the dragon eggs hatched? There are many different theories, I don’t find one better than the other, but I personally think it was one magical moments aided by Mirri’s magic (unintentionally), blood magic and Dany’s fire tolerance. It was a mix of many things that placed Dany with an advantage that she did not see coming, nor did Mirri. I think “fire cannot kill a dragon” will eventually backfire (no pun intended, though the irony was intended) on Dany. If we think about it, if someone had poured boiling molten gold on her head, she too would have died.

I think Cersei’s “the more beautiful queen” prophecy is certainly interesting. But I have a hard time taking seriously any leads or theories because people usually get defensive about their choices (or favourite characters let’s say). I don’t think it’s Dany; What Cersei holds dear will surely be taken from her -if it hasn’t already- a lot sooner than Dany’s arrival to Westeros. I don’t think it’s Sansa either, though I totally get why people see her as her successor. In my opinion is Margaery, just because I want Cersei to place her fears in the right place. She’s been paranoid for a while -and who wouldn’t in her case- but I think she has in the past placed her eye in the right direction. She’s seen the Tyrells as enemies in general, and that is sort of coincidental with a Tyrell Conspiracy theory I read a while ago. Meaning basically that they orchestrated everything to make Cersei fall. And since they’ve already had part in killing Joffrey, how can I doubt they have more cards under their sleeves?

Stannis as Night’s King. (Was as well brought to my attention by a follower-anon). Honestly it makes a lot of sense to me. There was a time I sort of liked Stannis, so because of that I wouldn’t like this to be true. But on the other hand it would be so awesome, and I don’t care anymore for him so bring it!

ooh how about nolan? what do you think of his movies?

Hi!

Well I think Nolan is a “polish and refined” action movie director. He happens to excel in movies that many others do, bringing quality when others can’t. I think he knows his action movies, I think he knows what the audience likes, he knows how to make a seriously good action scene, and he brings an incredibly sophisticated look and feel to the scenes, but there’s not much substance in his work. I don’t think there’s originality in his work in the sense that many other directors do what he does though not with the same quality rate, but there’s some originality in the way he approaches an action movie, which sets him apart. If you don’t just want to make big bucks with an action flick, but want a good film, you call Nolan and he’ll provide quality action. What I mean is basically that his movies don’t leave you with much, or personally don’t leave a certain feeling in me except for wow that was a movie well made. 

I think his early work brought more in terms of originality and daring topics. Memento is a fine movie with a lot of intricate moments, and overall good storyline. The characters, the script, the actors’ work, the direction was quite good, and I think that’s the movie I think about when I try to see the less “marketable” side of his work. Inception of course has some of that too. I personally wasn’t blown away by it like everyone else was. I think it was intricate, it had fantastic special effects, the storyline was really something no one had ever seen before (much like Memento), and overall it was a great action film that brought a little bit more of substance. But overall I think there’s a little touch there that he does not know how to do (or maybe doesn’t even care in doing) in order to make the movie more compelling in terms of the human story of his action movies. I think in that sense The Prestige took him a lot further. The story seemed to revolve around the people and not the heavy machinery the hero has to kill the bad guy, or the special effects that show you how advanced technology is nowadays. In those terms comparing his Batman movies to Tim Burton’s, I prefer Burton’s. Yes, they were a mess at the end, but Burton has a personal touch, a personal view, his own aesthetics that set him apart. He has his own print, while Nolan seems to be more generic in that sense.

Nolan does good quality action flicks, but there’s something always lacking, whether it’s the human story (and when there’s one it’s always not compelling or is even a little plastic), or the personal touch of the director, I always leave his movies not really remembering or getting attached to one moment or one piece of them. And most of the time I find the actors who have worked with him, the reason why I need to see his movies. Their work speaks louder than the actual movie.

I should add though, he’s a good writer. He has written the scripts of most of the movies he’s directed.

Hi, sorry of my question doesn't suit for the blog or was already asked, but i've noticed that reviewing (not only GoT) you pay attention to writing and directing. So, my question is, who do you think are the best directors and writers (not necessarily working now) and what are their best works?

I do have a list of directors/producers I like. The other day I remembered one that is not on the list, but now I can’t remember it. lol. Now it’s a little bit different to say “best directors” than to say “directors I like”. I recognize that they are not always the best, but they have some movies and some work that speaks for itself.

If I would have to say who are the best I would name:

Scorsese or Cuarón, currently.

I think Fincher has a great style, but sometimes I wonder where he would be without the amazing cinematography in his movies. I think he’s a director that catches your attention with beautifully composed and well lighted images, but is not necessarily the best director.

Ridley Scott was once an amazing director, I don’t know what happened to him. But he continues to be a remarkable producer though.

I think I would say Scorsese is one of the best directors, now and in the past. He has amazing technique, pushes his actors harder and harder. He has a style but is never limited by it. I like that when you see one of his movies you know is his movie without even looking at the credits. Good Fellas and The Wolf of Wall Street really show who he is as a director. I think his work is impeccable, especially in the first one.

Tarantino is brilliant in a pop-culture kind of way. I don’t always enjoy his thirst for blood and violence, but he’s certainly good.

David Lynch as well. There’s a lot of substance in his work, as well as originality.

Ang Lee. I think the look of his movies is striking, he comes across as meticulous without being too polish. He has a great touch to make things more realistic and common.

I don’t personally pay attention to the credits when it comes to writing. I think when I see movie that I like, I go back and find interest in knowing more about their writers. But most of the time the names don’t repeat themselves, so it’s hard for me to give you an answer when I haven’t been paying close attention to the writers. Sorry, that’s all I can say about this.

The Chronicles of Riddick (Vin Diesel is a terrible actor, yet I saw all 3 of them)

I had an Orlando Bloom phase. Even though his movies were bad most of the time, and he was atrocious, I kept watching them. 

I like Rachel McAdams, I think she's a decent actress, but her choices are always so bad. I watch her movies and side eye her for doing most of them (like, really Rachel a movie with Channing Tatum?!)

Keanu Reeves (I think he can manage to play certain roles, but he's quite dull as an actor, inexpressive..., yet I love him, and I will see his movies no matter what. Plus he's a great guy who does the most normal things and doesn't give a shit about fame).

I watch Girls and some of the acting is terribly bland, the plots are obnoxious, and most of the time I don't get the hype for the show, yet I watch it for some kinda odd reason. I guess I like to see Hannah fail.

That's all I can say for now, but I have so much more.

I don’t have a preference for Arianne, as long as is not Freida Pinto, since she is a bad actress. I honestly think the character needs a strong actress, with enough talent to give certain subtleties to Arianne’s traits. And I don’t have a choice for Quentyn either, I would have to think about it. I do have one for Trystane if you care: Suraj Sharma as Trystane. But I think he might look too old next to Aimee (Myrcella), or maybe not, I’m not sure how old is he. (I just watched Suraj's video. Hell no!)For Doran I would really, really, really want Alexander Siddig. REALLY, REALLY, REALLY.

I absolutely love your blog, I searched days to find a serious blog about this show and then I found this piece of art! I like to read reviews but yours just blow my mind! The amount of detail you put into it... breathtaking! Your acting reviews are dead on and although I love Dany with all my heart, I now see her weaknesses. But I do have a question: a couple of weeks ago, you said it would be fitting for Jorah to be a POV in the books, which other characters do you think deserve this too?

A wildling POV would have been great, but I don’t think Ygritte would have been my choice.

Honestly, just the first and sixth would be the only ones I would add.
