"they're not their kids; neither of them gave birth to them. Why adopt?"
"Why are they fighting for civil rights? A man with a man and a woman with a woman? WHAT IS THAT?! No. They don't deserve any rights. They are not normal. A man should be with a woman, end of story. That's the way it is."Â
"They aren't born with that. It is showed to them. Which is why I don't think gay couples should adopt children. They're making more gay people!"
Them, he started criticizing everything about them. And it wasn’t even strange things! It was the normal stuff! Like:
"Two men/women adopting kids."
“A man pushing the stroller.”
"A person asking who the mother is."
And to every single one of these statements, I replied "So?" He was all "What do you mean so??", outraged. And then, my father stepped in, defending those people. See, normally, he wouldn't even care to argue with his father because the man is truly stubborn and anything he doesn't agree with is simply wrong. So when my father started pointing out that those couples are giving those children a much better life, full of love and understanding, I couldn't have been more proud of him. My grandfather kept bashing and my father didn't back down. My grandfather mentioned God at one point and my father stopped him right there. "If homosexuality is against God, then why did God create it? Huh? He wouldn't have created homosexuality if he didn't want it to happen. You don't see three-headed men walking around, do you? Exactly. Because God didn't create it. So everything that exists is for a reason." Eventually, my grandfather shut up and changed the subject. For once, he didn't have the last word. And I'm glad. I have many homosexual friends and it's not fair to them to be criticized like that. He said more things but, really, I don't think he deserves to be heard. He's the reason so many gay people are afraid to show who they really are. He's the reason prejudice and unfairness still exists.
He's the reason we have to keep fighting with and for our homosexual friends and family. I love you and I will stand up to people like my grandfather for you, because you are worth it. You deserve happiness just like any one of us.
