It’s 5:30 am on a Sunday morning and I’ve been up since 3 working on my final project and honestly the only thing I can think about is the NFL Draft and how America enables this ritualistic, pageant-like announcement with televised parties and the distribution of branded materials to young men (especially young moc); the powers that be draft these 20, 21, and 22 year old athletes into an aggressive sport that has been shown to cause serious injury and even death; but pro football culture also catapults these people to near untouchable, god-like status even at the height of scandal and illegality, promoting this cyclically toxic mindset for young men who see football as an “out” of poverty.
