So I’ve seen 13 episodes of Yu Gi Oh 5Ds which I started watching because “trololol they play card games on motorcycles???” and. I.

Actually like it? We have this totalitarian background with magical illuminati in power, which might not be super original but works in building plot tension AND we have the main’s thing with his ex bf Jack for a more personal arc. Also the main is a stoic character but also will give impromptu speeches on BONDS OF FRIENDSHIP with zero shame and it’s. So. Cute. I die. *wobbles* And just. Everything is cheesy as heck but in a kind of touching way. (Also I am a sucker for characters whose deck mirrors their character? And Yusei’s deck being mostly... junk monsters. oh noooo a literal trash baby must protect him /uwu\ )

Even the random side characters are sympathetic. Even CHILD characters are cute instead of annoying. Heck, even Ushio the yugioh Javert is kind of cute. (He just needs to chill a bit before he hurts himself. Again.)

I also tried to watch Zexal out of curiosity but everything and everyone was obnoxious. idek if it would be less so if I could find anything but the dub but as it was, by the third episode I was wincing every time I heard the word “flow”. Just don’t. Literally ONLY character I found even a little interesting was Astral, not that I had time to see much of them.

Best part: When the main is called “dueling trash” (by cleaning robots because he dropped his cards on the street). There it is. The entire franchise.
