FINALE SPOILERZZZZ so I guess this kinda shoots my "Shae=Taena" theory right in the heart, doesn't it? :-/ On the one hand I'm sad b/c SHAE she was so great and I liked her actress a lot, but on the other hand I'm kind of excited to see who they get for Taena and what she brings to the part. (Although I've heard some people theorize that Ellaria=Taena, and that she'll be sticking around KL as a connection b/w Dorne and the Lannisters, so maybe there's that.)
Hi!
Well yeah, sorry. Shae was great, I liked the changes around the character, and how that allowed to expand her storyline. It was a good change.
I actually wouldn’t mind if Ellaria gets to stick around, it would be a good solution, and you know they are going to have someone taking the place of Taena (if they don’t cast someone as Taena), there’s too much they can profit from the scenes between her and Cersei. So, yeah, that would actually be a good solution, and a good way to avoid introducing another secondary character.
Thanks!
Holy Lord of Light, I just realized... In season 3, when Tyrion gave Shae a necklace of chain! He was... GIVING HER A NECKLACE OF CHAINS! Does it mean what I think it means? Because I'm praying as hard as I can over here.
I think it does… A minimal "change" there, but I guess it gives a different meaning to the moment.
There was a post about it some time ago, but it was so spoilery I couldn’t even acknowledge its existence.
Thanks!
ASOS Spoilers: Tyrion-Shae
ser-arthurdayne said: I think they might have Tywin kill her, just so when Tyrion does pull the trigger it looks like he did it for love and not out of slightly petty anger (petty not being the right word)
MTE. I think the only death blamed on him will be Tywin's.
placoderm said: that would make me so mad! why else would they be focusing so hard on making him the good guy this season if they weren’t leading up to him doing something horrible like killing shae? i wannnnt it to happpennnnnnn
I think they are cleaning his image for sure, and they are building him like a "good guy". But I've turned into a pessimist about certain things in this show, and one of the things that keeps coming back to my head, is Tyrion's white-washing. I will rage, no doubt about it. IMO he's not going to be completely blamed for it. Whether accidental or by Tywin's hands, her death might not be accounted to him. SRSLY hoping to be totally wrong about this.
biderbeck said: Tyrion has flaws, and the most obvious is his jealousy i mean come on he has rules for whores ….whores! but he has very redeemable qualities so i don’t think he’ll stray much from the book arc (D&D will follow that plan…i hope)
Oh, no doubt about it. But I think the non readers viewers have him on a pedestal in which he was placed by the show runners. So, sometimes I feel like they can't really make him be who he really is, or they might feel they lose their leading character. Idk, again I hope I'm wrong.
wicgeeks said: you really think they’ll forgo such a dramaticaly rich, pivotal moment? Without that, how to begin Tyrion’s descent of affc/adwd? i can’t fathom the thought. I’d hate it so much.
Idk. Is either that, or making Shae to be a complete backstabber or traitor to him. It's either him not killing her, or killing her with a "big reason", cause again to me, she wasn't free to speak in favour of him, and was forced by the circumstances she was at. And since they have been adamant in showing Shae's love for Tyrion, then I guess the former is more in consonance with the changes.
ASOS Spoilers: Shae
jellybi said: My fear is that Shae’s arc is going to play out exactly like Talisa’s, and that all the expansion to her character are there to make it more tragic for Tyrion when she is killed by one of his enemies (instead of by his own hand)
Yeah that's my fear too. And that's probably the way they want Tyrion to be portrayed. He can't be a grey character for them, he has to be one of the good guys, with no flaws.
ASOS SPOILERS: Shae
I never viewed Shae and Tywin's relationship as an "affair". She found a better life with Tyrion, and he gave her protection when he was around. After he gets accused, then she's obligated to do what Cersei and Tyrwin want. She had no one else to protect her. I know it's really hard to see this, but whether she truly loved Tyrion or not, is irrelevant if she's in a position in which no one cares about a commoner, especially a prostitute. She speaking against him, was not much of a choice. She didn't have the option to say no in both cases, so I'm inclined to say she was forced to be in both situations, cause otherwise she would have been killed. The changes done to the character, sort of make explicit, what the books showed in more subtle way, since she didn't get a POV, or some way to express what was happening during this time. Tywin is a man with power, Shae is a commoner with no power. She had to do things in order to surive, and that's the sad truth. The show can easily continue with this line of development for Shae, and still make the relationsip between her and Tywin happen. They can show him putting her under his control, after Tyrion falls in disgrace. And her doing what he wants, especially with the confession part, cause I doubt they'll make Cersei responsible for that. They have been removing Cersei's agenda in her causes, so I doubt they'll make her plot against her brother that much.
Thanks!
What do you think of Shae's performance so far? I don't know what it is, but something about her acting bothers me
Hi!
I think she’s been improving. She certainly put effort in her performance, and some of her face expressions have made the scenes she was involved in.
I like the changes done to the character, and I think she was able to take advantage of the extra screen time. They gave her a voice, and she was allowed to explore with her character.
I’m pleasantly surprised with her improvement. Probably the only thing that bothers me about it, has to be her accent. Sometimes is quite distracting, and most of the people point out that as the only issue they see in her work on the show. I think it’s appropriate for her to have a different accent, and I’m kinda getting used to it, so I don’t mind it anymore.
Thanks!
