Sometimes I read fanfic for the fluff. Gratuitous hand holding, accidental confessions, coffee shop au's. Or maybe a between-the-scenes moment. Fics that are wrap me up in warm feels.
But other times? I enjoy fics where something in canon goes wrong. The Big Plan went off, but there was a hitch. Blood on the walls, on the floor, on their hands. Introspection turned into memoriam. Nothing could save them, or they never wanted to be saved at all. Loathing, grief, guilt, wrapped around pain that they can't let go.
Sometimes I just need fics that will haunt me.
