sorry if u have already talked about this before, but in civil war what did u think about tony getting peter involved? to me it seemed kinda not right seeing as tony kinda manipulated him into it plus he's like a child
I have talked a lot about this, and I’ve also read a lot about people’s opinions on this. Basically, I think:
Tony involving Peter was pretty much just the writers trying to conveniently slot Spider-Man into a jammed superhero movie. Which is a little lazy, if you think about it. It would’ve been cool to see something happen in NYC and have Peter getting himself involved despite everyone else telling him to buzz off
From a moral POV, Tony shouldn’t have recruited a minor. Considering his entire argument of ‘taking responsibility for our actions’ and adhering to a government figure and not letting innocent people/kids get dragged into the Avengers fights… Yeah. Hypocritical.
The recruitment was all kinds of manipulative. I don’t think Tony set out to use manipulation tactics to get Peter involved, I think it was an instinctive, subconscious thing; he was stressed and he needed Peter’s help and he’s used to making people think what he wants (like most heroes are, really).
The thing that I cannot stand, the one thing that really pisses me off - Tony didn’t tell Peter what he was fighting for. Peter’s ideology aligns with Cap’s far more than Tony’s, but all Tony told Peter was that “Cap is wrong, and that makes him dangerous.” What the fuck? You don’t recruit someone into a fight and then neglect to tell them what they’re fighting for. Essentially, Tony was taking away the right to choose (whoop, now I sound like Steve) and the right to make an educated decision from Peter. It’s more the ignorance Tony imposes on Peter rather than the recruitment that makes me mad.
