I just find ‘little kitten’ cuter than kitty… also my impression was that the subs toned down the flirtation sometimes. like that scene where he’s pretending to be in the shower? for some reason the gifsets just had her babbling fairly innocuously but in french she straight up babbled about him not needing clothes to come out or something, i forget exactly what she said, but in general i thought the english fans are just not getting the full experience here.

I watched nearly all of the episodes in English, and then the ones I hadn’t seen in English in French, and then a few of the episodes I had seen in English in French, so I suppose my viewing experience is a bit of a mixed bag!

Some of the French nicknames are very much sweeter, I’ll grant you that. They’re shorter to say so they fit the animation better than the longer translations into English. And I do twitch a little at ‘evilise’/’de-evilise’ every episode; I think the French phrasing of ‘turn their heart dark’ sounds a lot less dorky. (But then I kind of forgive a lot of dorkiness bc I’m watching two teenagers run around Paris dressed as a black cat and a ladybird fighting enemies dressed as evil weathergirls/pigeons/etc. Bless the superhero genre.)

The English episode definitely had her babbling that no, Adrien couldn’t put on clothes before coming out of the shower/bathroom, wait, yes he could... I don’t know about the subs on the French; I don’t remember.

Mostly, I think the adaptations are pretty fair, and keep as much as they can? I can’t speak for the Korean, but they seem to have been saying a lot of the same stuff in English as they have been in French.
