i’m glad my parents haven’t moved because it’s nice having a childhood home to go back to, especially since most of my friends from highschool still live here. but i’m trying to comprehend the level of place-related stockholm syndrome or extreme fear of change you’d have to have to willingly live here for nearly 18 years.
#it's absolutely baffling#for my dad i kind of understand because he skis and stuff#for my mom? makes no sense at all#the winters are miserable - VERY cold with 3-4 ft feet of snow and no sun at all for months#even in summer it's ????#the hiking isn't very good because the smoke is so intense in the summers and there are very hikes longer than 5 miles that are within an#hour drive#*very few#it's so rural there are almost no options for anything. the education system here is terrible. there are very few stores etc.#the closest airport is 4 hours away & across an international border#going anywhere requires driving for at least half an hour#shipping here takes forever#there are no jobs at all (both of them work from home)#it's just. ?????#i've lived in a number of different places at this point & i'd easily take any one of them over this place#it's so extremely culturally homogenous - everyone is related to each other except us. no one comes & no one leaves.#it's just bleak. so extremely bleak.#(& like. they willingly moved here for no apparent reason! they WFH in the city we used to live in on the other side of the continent. they#could leave anytime and go somewhere less absolutely awful. it makes no fucking sense!)
