fuck student loans... I am right there with you... I also went to a private University and now kinda wish I'd done two years at a CC

Now that I really understand what I got myself into, I wish the same thing. Or that I'd gone to a state school, which would have been significantly cheaper. Like, I know my private university probably helped a lot in both getting me into grad school and getting me a job, but the debt is fucking scary.

Income-based repayments FTW! Seriously, it’s the best way to go. Sure, you pay interest for like ever, but it’s the only way to stay sane. If you google IBR, there’s some good websites explaining how to sign up. Works for fed loans. Good luck!

The income based plans (even though we are phasing out of them now) are really godsends. And the paperwork isn’t too bad.

I'm definitely going to be applying for those now. Paying more in the end is an okay trade-off I think for being able to pay anything now. Especially since public servants don't make a whole hell of a lot. Especially newly hired public servants.

It’s taken me eight years to pay off my loan. When it’s done, it’s awesome.

God, I'm nowhere near that and it's just scary. So scary. But I'll be looking for that light at the end of the tunnel...congrats for getting yours all paid off!

I felt the same way - and hell I’m still accumulating debt - but they’ll work with you and make sure that you’re not in the poor house at the end of every month.

Thanks so much, ladies! I'm less freaked out than I was last night, and your messages really helped. Student loans, man. Just...ugh.
