I'm not talking to my parents about my mental health. Ever. I'm going to be 18 in August, I hope I can make it. My school is rigorous and it's tough for a normal person, let alone a depressed person. My lack of motivation and inability to concentrate is ruining my life. My only hobby I still enjoy is playing music, but I know I'm complete shit and that really gets to me sometimes. Idk, I just want to die. -S.E.
Is there a reason you don’t want to talk to your parents about your mental health? Is it that you feel that they won’t understand? Can you see a therapist in school without them knowing or something?
I really would recommend seeing your doctor, they can help you a lot more than we can and through them you might be able to find your motivation and help your concentration levels. I had a little look online and found a few things that might help you, you can find them here and here.
I also have a few tips of my own for you that I found helpful.
1. Take regular breaks. They say the human brain can only concentrate for 28 minutes at a time. Take a five or ten minute break every half an hour.
2. Play some music. I found listening to either rousing or relaxing/classic music helped me to concentrate, but any type of music might help.
3. Make sure you drink plenty of water. They say when you feel thirsty you’re already dehydrated, so make sure you’re hydrated!
I hope this helps a little. Please hold on love. Carry on with your music. Practice makes perfect, they say, and it’s true. Music is a wonderful thing and it’ll help you through this.
