I also think Gort is very explicitly not afraid of death. At least not of his own.
Even if he fails someone else will rise again soon after, someone will rise again and attempt the same. And he knows this.
So the ones killing him are the only fools here. Thinking they saved someone, that they accomplished some glorious, heroic act when in truth they've just condemned the future. Hatred and greed will preserver but he was the only one who tried to use it for the betterment of the people. The others will simply repeat history. He was the only one who sought those means, those well-established working tools, to impose a cruel but necessary justice. His machines and machinations will persevere, his blueprints will be spared, used and ultimately abused, for only he was able to play the devils and the god of tyranny and strife. No one else will be able to save the people. Hence why he would have no problem dying. Might even be laughing in the face of his killer for they doomed the thing they tried to save and he is spiteful enough, and cares just enough, to laugh at the irony of their achievements.
Now is wrong? Probably. But that guy is fucked up and I very much think he'd think that way. And it tracks because Raphael and (at least) Bane think and act similarly.
