He’d rather not dither about the typical congratulations and celebrations that came with such a day, instead offering the mere acknowledgement of another year lived relatively successfully. It was meant as a subjective concept, of course; but the idea was easy to boil down into one fact: you’ve lived to see another cycle, happily or not. The latter certainly hadn’t been up to Cloud, nor was it something he had any particular understanding of-- for, as usual, he’d barely been around for much of it.
It’s strange how absence makes the mind grow fonder. (Didn’t that saying go a little differently?)
