For what felt like forever she had paced the halls of the estate, pondering what to do. The small stem of the flower twirled between her fingers as she tried to think of a decision. The flower was so small but she had seen its stark red color the moment that she had stepped into her bedroom. He used to do this before. Just a small flower to indicate that they would meet in her mother's rose garden. She had noticed him when he had first arrived and had to remind herself that she wasn't living in a sort of dream. No this was reality. This was real and he had been there before her, the entertainment that her intended had invited for this weekend. She hadn't expected the flower, she hadn't thought that he had recognized her at all so scarce were they in the same room. yet here was the proof that she had mattered to him the way that they had sworn to one another.
Finally, she drew up the end of her skirts and turned the way towards the backdoors where she was certain that no trace of a person would be. She tucked the flower behind her ear and lightly made her way through the path that led to the gardens. Only once did she glance back towards the house to check the state of lights flickering in the windows, when she was sure that there were none, she continued on. She only stopped when she saw his outline. Her heart stopped even though he was merely a shadow's silhouette standing there.
"Mat?" She softly called, somehow feeling struck by how familiar the sound of his name was in her mouth. She stepped nearer, only to see him better is what she told himself. "I didn't think that you recognized me." - @luckhissoul
