There and Back
Pairing: Dean Winchester x Female Reader Word Count: 360 Warnings: A bit of angst. Author’s Note: Part of the Never, My Love anthology.
“You ASSHOLE! What were you thinking?” She throws a hand in the air as he opens his mouth. “That was rhetorical. You weren’t thinking. You were reacting.”
Spinning on a heel, she slams the door shut as she walks out of the motel room. Betrayal bolsters her ire, and that fury fuels her quickening pace. A cursory glance over her shoulder assures that, thankfully, he isn’t following, because right now, she’d rather punch him in the face than listen to him try to explain.
Besides, she already knows why he made the deal—the floppy-haired brother walking toward her with the bags of their dinner gripped in his hand. Frustrated, and pissed at him as well, she cuts to the right and sprints across the parking lot ignoring Sam as he shouts her name.
It takes a while, but Dean finally finds her in a park on the other side of town. The rusted metal frame groans as he sits in the swing next to her.
Emotions loom in the silence like a dense fog, all-encompassing and impenetrable.
"I had to.”
Dragging her heels in the sand to stall her momentum, she stands, “I know,” and walks away.
The months creep by. The reflection in the mirror is a shell of the person she once was.
Then Bobby called.
Bursting through the door, she stops dead in her tracks, heart hammering in her chest.
"Hey." Hesitant, yet hopeful.
The single rasped syllable nearly breaks her. Eyes darting to Bobby, she bites her trembling lip and silently pleads.
Bobby nods, "It's him."
Before he even finishes the sentence, she launches herself at Dean, nearly sending them crashing to the floor.
"Whoa!" Strong arms encircle her, holding her close as she sobs into his shoulder. He kisses the top of her head, then whispers into her hair, "I had Bobby call because I was afraid you wouldn't want to see me. I thought you’d hate me.”
Tilting her head back, she's met with a tormented, frightened gaze. Her chest tightens, then warms. Cupping his face in both hands, she tenderly states, "Never, my love," before pulling him in for a burning kiss.
