Been slacking on doing Herokel stuff lately lol had this idea in mind for a little while now but could never figure out how to do it well so I just gave up on that and did it badly. Could’ve turned out worse hfdksjfh

sunny whining for hero to come take care of him (snuggle for warmth) while he's sick 🥰 cue hero rushing over with a full pharmacy kit for every possible cold symptom (antihistamines, lozenges, cough syrup, tylenol, honey lemon tea)

he presents them to sunny at his bedside, carefully describing each of them to him. meanwhile sunny's just wordlessly tugging his arm to pull him into bed. you can see the ❔ and soft frown appear on hero, as he mutters "no, no. you need to rest", shaking his head slowly.

then sunny looks at him with big pleading eyes, and hero knows he's lost the battle.

My month of Herokel drabbles begins today! The idea of writing basically every day for a whole month is a bit daunting, I’m not going to lie, but I’ll do my best, and I hope you all enjoy reading everything!

Some fanart of Hero from the wonderful fic Obsessed on Ao3! I misremembered who he was peeping at on his phone on the train when I drew this, so I drew him watching Sunny sleeping rather than Kel, but it’s not a big deal. I’m pretty happy with it either way.

And got some thoughts bouncing around for a longfic (that there’s actually no way I’ll get around to writing lmao oneshots are doable but longfics are an actual pipe dream and I’ve never finished one ever lol)

Bit rambly so I’ll put it under a cut

It’s post Abandon ending, some time after Sunny moves away, where Hero (and the others, but it’s pretty Hero-centric, especially since it’s taking place in the city rather than Faraway so Aubrey and Kel aren’t even there) are shattered from Basil’s suicide. Hero finds out through his mom talking to Sunny’s mom that Sunny moved close to the university he’s attending, and he starts making an effort to reach out to Sunny, because the more he thinks, the more he realizes just how dead the look in Sunny’s eyes was on his last days in town, and the more he realizes how similar Sunny’s behaviour has been to his own back during and just after the first year. He’s scared he’s going to lose somebody else, and he just can’t take it, he can’t sit by and do nothing.

His efforts bear fruit, little by little, coaxing Sunny out of the house again, but there’s a shadow Hero can’t seem to do anything about and Sunny won’t let him help with, and Sunny’s recovery plateaus.

The truth has to come out at some point, but I’m not sure how or when, since I don’t think Hero would be able to figure it out. The onus for that would be on Sunny, just like in canon. The truth coming out definitely needs to kneecap Hero’s own fragile state of recovery, though, so they can both heal more properly once it’s out.

I don’t really have too many more specific thoughts besides like, Hero taking Sunny out around the town in an effort to get him out and doing stuff, but yeah, thoughts lol

It’s also not super ship-focused, but since it’s the kind of post-canon where canon’s happened really recently (Sunny’s probably 16/17 here) I think that’s probably fine :P
