Angies character would be perfectly fine, a fun character even, if she wasnt one of the only darker skinned characters in the series, if she wasnt visibly Polynesian and if “Atua” wasnt an actual name that refers to Polynesian deities. But because of those decisions angie is nothing more than a mockery of indigenous Polynesian culture. Its really upsetting to see Polynesian religion represented as nothing more then a scam, a cult with similar structure to a multilevel marketing scheme. Now I’ve only played the english dub so i have no idea if Angie’s god is referred to by another name in the original text which would certainly remedy most of the association with Polynesian spirituality, its still an overall poor and thoughtless decision on the behalf of team danganronpa.
