To a human's eyes, Louis wouldn't appear so hesitant. He moved too quickly for them to see the way his hand would still and press down into the fabric of his present at the sounds of the gifted box being open. They would be unable to spot the way his eyes would betray him and try to look over his shoulder at Lestat. For every time he did it, he was actively forcing his eyes back to the suit, or making his hand move again. His body moving as if it listened to his heart and not his mind. It was in this moment he was grateful for the music filling their room. The sound giving him something to focus on, allowing the nervous human like thoughts to be avoided, that is until Lestat spoke. He was not quick enough to catch himself from turning towards him. His heart picking up a pace or two with pride. He'd done well on the gift. Green eyes would flick down to the touch at his wrist and then returned back to Lestat's face, just in time to watch his eyes go to the suit. Giving him a moment to have the man's face all to himself. To appetize on the way the nearby candlelight echoed off of his cheekbone and jaw, that is until his eyes met the stark grey ones, knowing too well he'd been caught admiring. Something he'd so rarely done since the night he was changed. "Of course." A sharp nod, and he'd pull his attention back down to the suit, looking at the rich colors. He didn't need to be told that it was chosen with him in mind, he knew it was. Lestat always had a way with colors and had done quite the remodel on his wardrobe in the years they've been together. Louis didn't move quite so quickly here. He indulged in Lestat's grounding touch a moment longer before pulling away and grabbing the suit, intending on bringing it to his room, though he paused, turned his head over his shoulder, and spoke, "Since it's your gift, perhaps you'd like to make sure I put it all on correctly."
Lestat did not smile, but there was a clear approval in the way his posture eased. He gathered the pocketbook and set it aside with care before following Louis toward the adjoining room. The quartet continued without pause the sound was threading through the rooms like a held breath.
He stopped just inside the doorway and closed it with deliberate quiet. Candlelight caught the cut of the suit as he took it from Louis’ hands without asking. “You would rush it,” he said evenly. “You always do rush when something matters.”
Lestat laid the pieces out in precise order the jacket, waistcoat and shirt. He gestured once, and Louis was expected to comply. He corrected Louis' clothing placement as if he were a doll. When he adjusted the collar of Louis' shirt his touch was exact rather than indulgent. His fingers were briefly at Louis’s throat to straighten the line. He stepped back to assess his head tilting a fraction. “It suits you,” he said quietly and there was no exaggeration in it. “I chose it to temper you... not to disguise what you are.” His eyes moved over Louis with open scrutiny. “You carry yourself as though you expect judgment. I would have you remember who looks at you now.” He reached out again, this time only to smooth the sleeve, then he withdrew. “Come,” Lestat murmured. “Let them see you before the night grows old.”
