Run by one of the coolest nerds around, Jessica Diane Reitz creator of Unicorn Jelly and staff of many a cool site, HappyPuppy is a nice encapsulation of gaming and gaming culture back in the day when Pokémon gold was still a new thing. Launched in 1995, it holds the prestigious claim of being the first ever commercial gaming website. A lot of the reviews from different times are saved so click around on the WBA to maximize your experience. it’s interesting going back and seeing how people saw them with fresh eyes. It’s definitely worth a perusal if you’re interested in retro gaming!

Mentions of violence and other such things in relation to the games, it’s not particularly eye-strainy nor over saturated with GIFs.

Today’s site: That 90s site

welcome to a old face, a 90s site done in the modern age! I definitely and a few laughs here and there’s a lot of links to web archives (read: HEAVEN!!!) it’s a nice slice of how 1.0 was like back in the day. Pop by, check out some cool cats if you can shell out enough for the resolution on those babies, and take a peak into the past. It’s extremely charming in my humble opinion.

This site does contain gifs, some eye strain but not an egregious amount, and links to the waybackmachine that I can’t fully vet. BAYOR!

Today’s Site: Aristasian Reminiscence

a modern look at an old school group. I’m no historical expert quite yet so I won’t speak on the movement, but it’s definitely an interesting and comprehensive read from someone who experienced some of the community in the early Internet and discusses its history stretching even farther back, and who’s generous with linking source pages. There are multiple direct sources, from archives to still up journals and it’s certainly intriguing to hear about. Aesthetics wise this is also a very fun site, i do love the ribbons and frills. There are mentions of bigotry such as transphobia and misogyny cultish behavior, lots of discussions on gender and a few of sex. Nothing explicitly vulgar and no extreme violence. The site is dolled up but there aren’t too many contrasting colors or gifs.
