dirt under my nails, clinging
a comfort before their goodbyes
blinding, a sea without tide
lungs cold, too small to be locked away
My hands reach for your brow
your tongue praising the earth
until you and I are a tangle of
to shape the air we've come
spent from matching your howls (bleeding)
silent as you hold me close
claws digging, tearing through flesh and bone.
I'm a tree stripped of bark as
you rest your head against my open chest.
your teeth slick with what little is left in my veins
you burrow close, matted fur and pale skin
If only you could just slip
your hands through the bars
around me, warm, alive (ready?)
the beat, the words I want to (can I?)
Is it too heavy to carry?
