Frontiers’ 7 minute gameplay premiere has me feeling more... hmmm... than the short clip from earlier. Boosting seems to follow the Unwiished formula of one single spurt of boost that goes on for a few seconds? Which was pretty bad for a reason and the sound effect could 100% get annoying. Or the person playing in the demo was just spamming it randomly tbf, that’s a point we’ll actually need to wait and see on. Outside of that though Sonic’s movement doesn’t actually look especially fun or involved for this widescale 3D environment, even any cliffs or steep hills you just run straight up - traversal more than anything is what this game needs to nail if it’s going for the structure that it is so hopefully it’s more fun to just run around as Sonic than it looks in this demo. The other thing is that it seems like the objective structure is just... stopping to solve incredibly basic puzzles. Pausing to turn 1 statue so it faces the same way as the other 2 beside it doesn’t seem particularly challenging or satisfying and if stuff like that is what these open zones end up being filled with I’m kind of worried lol. Yesterday’s teaser built some intrigue for me but this longer gameplay demo’s pushed me way more on the cautious side of cautiously optimistic. We’ll see what happens I suppose.
