I kind of agree that it’s alot different, but there’s still bits and pieces of his old painful and dicey lines here and there. truly, they are alot rarer this season but I don’t think studio pierrot made him too awfully different despite what we’ve seen! I feel like they’re just going for some new gags, and buttmonkeying Kara all the time can get old if it’s the same thing over and over
yeah it’s definitely the same character, like it’s not like they’ve completely turned him into a different person - it’s just that they stopped making him the joke and started allowing him to make jokes, in a manner of speaking. like rather than standing off to the side and saying something irrelevant and getting ignored he’s an active participant. it’s definitely something fresh and I definitely appreciate it after the year-long slog of ichi-picking-on-kara / his-only-noteworthy-feature-is-his-bad-fashion content from various apps and merch and official art

honestly from a studio standpoint i think them changing the way kara is treated is just bc it wouldnt be the same jokes rehashed over and over, for some people it might still be funny but i know for me personally it has gotten a bit old? so i feel like that reason makes the most sense, and i am quite enjoying the new take on karamatsu. its def funnier for me watching than it would have been if they just reused those same jokes
I agree, looking at it purely from a production perspective it’s a great choice and a wonderful way to refresh the character and show off other aspects of his personality, especially since the content that came out during the long break started sort of beating the dead horse that was his most prominent season 1 aspects (which I also understand, since it’s not like the merch team can just go and decide on deeper characterization for him on a whim). but as much as I appreciate and love it, it does make me go “hmmm” from a purely IC standpoint. as likely as it is that it’s just a (very successful) alternate way of using his character, the hmmm persists
