You can only choose one picture to accurately represent the Weekend from Hell. GO.
IMPOSSIBLE. Wait, no. I’ve got it.
Just overwhelmed. Did he just. I think he just. Adorable? Wonderful work? For me? From him? Here? Now? What. How.
Or perhaps:
Laughter, unnecessarily close physical proximity, hotness, this photo has it all.
I like this one for her little smile and something about the way she’s standing under his arm (AND PROBABLY FINGERING HIS JACKET) and looking at the camera while he talks… it just feels safe. Also married.
WELP.
SO HAPPY BABIES.
But ultimately it might be:
It’s how his fingers splay on her shoulder, it’s Gillian being Gillian, it’s David watching her face like he can’t wait to see what happens next. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE AND WHY CAN'T THEY JUST ACT NORMAL.
Last year, you celebrated the 20th anniversary of The X-Files. What was the Comic-Con experience like for you?
DUCHOVNY: That was cool. We did the San Diego one, and that was fun because Chris was there, and a bunch of the writers were there: Vince Gilligan and Howard Gordon. I did one in New York with Gillian.
It's easy to make fun of fandom, but when you're sitting on the other side, 20 years out of doing a show, and these people are still interested and want to talk about it, it crosses over into me being really touched. I'm grateful and thankful. It started in a little room in Vancouver, and none of us knew what we were doing, and here we are 20 years later, and we're still talking to people who are interested in it, and I think, "Wow, life is strange and wonderful in some areas."

timeline updates
The Timeline has been updated with the following citations to reflect recent research.
2013
July 18 - The 20th Anniversary panel at the San Diego Comic-Con brought them together for at least a day. They both appeared to stay at the convention’s hotel for A-listers, and rode in the same car to a joint signing session and the panel. Afterwards they were photographed on TV Guide’s yacht.
July 21 - Entertainment Weekly reunion issue photoshoot in Los Angeles (with Chris Carter).
October 12-13 - Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up: the 101313 weekend began with their joint AMA session at reddit on Saturday morning (link) before going to NYCC to sign autographs and take fan pictures. That evening, they did a panel at Paley with red carpet press, and followed it up with dinner. Sunday had more autographs and then a panel at NYCC, at which it was asserted (and simultaneously problematized as a truth statement on account of either its spurious numerical or emotionally qualitative content) that they exchange “five emails a year.” Just a few days later, their EW reunion issue was released, which shed light on events earlier in the summer (see July 21 above).
November 16 - At an event at DePaul in Chicago, Gillian answered some questions (posed by strategically planted moles in the audience) about her current relationship with David and affirmed that they see each other on “rare and pleasant” occasions.
CONCLUSIONS
As of July 2013, they no longer claim to see each other “twice a year,” and have downgraded to “about once a year.” link
It is confirmed by both subjects that EMAIL occurs, perhaps around “five times a year,” perhaps many more — and that the emails originating with the male subject are sometimes signed “Mulder” in an apparent sudden outburst of inappropriate cuteness.
