Ianthony prompt : a kiss on the nose for no reason

"I can't get over it," Chanse mumbles, staring.

"I know," Tommy shakes his head. They're watching the daily rituals, as they've begun to call them.

"Here, let me just fix this…"

Anthony finger-combs Ian's hair, takes off his glasses and polishes them.

Ian just stands there and lets it happen.

"He's enjoying this so much," Chanse comments.

He has mixed feelings. He's glad Anthony makes Ian happy. But Shayne has told him stories of the 'in between years'.

"There, all done!" Anthony kisses Ian's nose.

"What was that for?" Ian scoffs, blushing.

"No reason."

"Oh, lord," Tommy and Chanse whisper to each other, rolling their eyes.

Inexperienced gaze flits across arrangements with the patience of a wild hound. He’s here for a reason; a gift. The story of ink etched on skin may not have been one often told, but it was one which would never be forgotten. Golden sun-kissed petals do seem charming now he observes them. A shopkeeper grasps his attention, inquiring if he requires any help. The temptation to say no floats in his throat but dismissed in haste with acceptance. Reno does not trust himself to perform well in matters such as these and welcomes the assistance.

Soon he leaves the florist, flowers yearning for sun in hand.

Sometimes, when the days are too long, James has The Dream.

He’s riding his horse at breakneck speed, Silver snug behind him. For once, they aren’t running from something, but towards.

He turns in his saddle, but his horse continues true, an arrow propelled. Silver’s hair whips behind them, pulled by the past they’re escaping. He presses a kiss to Silver’s lips, watches a smile break across his face.

Then he wakes, staring at the empty cot where his quartermaster sometimes sleeps. He shoves aside the ache in his heart.

When this war is over, he vows, drifting back to sleep. When this war is over.
