The 107e back axle is about as easy to find as hen’s teeth. The 107e was only made from 1959 to 1961 (I think) so there weren’t many to begin with. The axle is model specific as it is a hybrid of the old 100e back axle in that it is the same width (45″ wide case) and wheel stud pcd (4 x 5.5″) and the newer Anglia 105e back axle as it has the much stronger Ford English diff casing which was used on most rear wheel drive 4 cylinder Fords from the start of the 60s for about the next 20 years.
I’d had a lead on one in Ipswich and to be fair I should have gone and got it straight away but summer holiday and a couple of festivals got in the way. As I was about to contact the seller to say OK I can come and get it, she messaged me back that she had decided to sell her car and the original axle with it.
My fault, you snooze you lose!
About a week later I get a call from Stevie Timms, one of several people I’d briefed on what a 107e axle looks like and that go to boot fairs and autojumbles and have good mechanical knowledge. “I’m at a boot fair in Rotherham, I’ll send you some pics”.... The boot fair turned out to be the National Street Rod Association swap meet.... the pics are below. He got a bit knocked off the price too :)
Thanks Stevie very eagle-eyed!
Just need to find some drums for it .... and a diff .... and some backing plates .... and a load of brake parts .... and some wheel bearings..... it’ll all be good!
