#10yrsAgo: I toured Mexico with the Godfather of Mexican Hip Hop, @bocaflojaquilombo & a gang of the most woke & allied brothers I’ve ever had the pleasure of touring with. True gentle giants and Warriors. I’m glad @gabrielteodros reminded me of this in his post, which I’ve reposted below. I would not be exaggerating if I said this was in my top 3 career highlights so far in life. I just kept on wondering, “what did I do to deserve to be here!?” Felt so blessed and still do. Thank you @bocaflojaquilombo for the insane show of generosity. Would have been easy to do that tour on your own, all the fans were yours. With so much love and respect, still humbled. Ps. It was on this tour I officially became “Auntie E” thanks to Gabe haha. Not only was this one of my favorite performance moments ever (we kept a sold-way-past-capacity crowd captivated after the electricity went out in the neighborhood for a whole hour... by the time the lights came back on people were crowdsurfing), but the love we got in Mexico as a whole was truly humbling. Just hearing people's stories and what the music meant to them made me forever think of my music as something that isn't mine alone. It was the main catalyst that got me back in the studio to make the Colored Peoples Time Machine album. Much love to Bocafloja, Eternia, Cambio + Para La Gente, Solymar and everyone who rocked with us out there. 10 years just flew by...
