11 Things You Need to Bring to the Job Interview
Directions- Don't get lost on the way there, you may get frustrated or worried. This can definitely impact your appearance during the interview as well, you may be stressed out looking or appear ager. Be specific about your directions (where to go, which door to enter, where to park) because you want to leave a fabulous impression on the employer. Don't forget to show up 5 minutes early!
Money- Bring coins for the ride, especially in case you need to pay for meters or tolls on the way to your destination. You never know what may suddenly pop up!
A professional bag- One in a solid color and with enough space for everything. Not too big though, you want to seem organized and totally in control of your everything.
Tide-to-Go sticks- Just in case an accident occurs or a makeup stain appears on your slick new dress.
Gum and Mints- Fresh breathe is always a plus during an interview. Just remember not to chew your gum during the interview. It appears sloppy.
Identification- Always have some form of ID on you in case you are asked for valid ID. You may need your ID for the application process as well.
Pens or pencils- A spare pen or pencil here or there never hurt a person. It's also not impressive to ask your employer for a writing utensil, it may seem that you are unorganized or unprepared.
Extra copy of your resume- The extra copy may be used as a refresher or you may have updated your information. Either way it looks good that you have a copy with you.
References- Have references available to your interviewer. Just be sure that you've spoken with everyone on the reference list prior to the interview. If you have the opportunity, bring a letter of recommendation with you to the interview.
Portfolio- Have a portfolio ready which includes some examples of your work. Clips from your work could include art designs, marketing research or advertisements which show off your best effort.
Always have a Notebook ready- The notebook will show that you are prepared for the job and that you are willing to take the time to write things down. It shows interest in the position and that you have potential.
Lastly be confident in yourself. Every employer wants a confident and fresh person for the position, have faith in yourself and your work. When you feel great about yourself you're bound to be great. Think happy thoughts, tackle those tough questions and top off the interview with a "thank you for your time." You are bound to get that job :o)
