Cristiano arrived in Obidos丨Nov.11,2013丨HQ
Bastille (with support act To Kill A King) - den Atelier (Luxembourg) - 11.11.2013
For the sake of being honest, let’s start with a confession: I’m not the biggest fan of Bad Blood. I totally fell for Flaws when it was released and I can see why people love the album, but cannot quite follow them there. However, I didn’t have to think twice about getting a ticket when the chance arose to see them because from all I had heard/seen/been told, I knew they were a great live band. If I still had had any doubts about it, they would all have been abolished by their performance last Monday. My friend and I arrived at the venue about two and a half hours before the doors opened and though the queue wasn’t long, we knew we could not make it to the front row (very small stage at Den Atelier) and therefore decided to rather head to the balcony. Which turned out to be a very good decision not only because we had a great view, but also because Dan came up to us during „Flaws“ :D Bastille fans are very dedicated I must say – I have been queueing for MUCH longer, but I never had to stand so tightly squeezed for so long. On the plus side, I didn’t feel cold, despite of the weather ;) Ever since the gig had been announced, I had been hoping for To Kill A King to be the support act. My friend on the contrary had never heard of them but ended up being a fan of theirs – as many others if the crowd reaction during their performance and the hustle at the merchandise desk afterwards are anything to go by. Needless to say that they more than deserve it, the combination of being great musicians and very nice guys is quite irresistible. I was actually pleasantely surprised by them being so funny on stage, it’s not something you would necessarily expect based on their music. I’m sure I’ll enjoy Bad Blood much more now as it will remind me of an awesome gig. What a party! Setlist: Bad Blood Things We Lost In The Fire Overjoyed The Silence What Would You Do Daniel In The Den The Weight Of Living Pt. II Blame Laura Palmer These Streets The Draw Icarus Flaws --------------- Get Home Of The Night Pompeii I really, really liked the two new songs they played. They prove imho that the band is developing and I’m looking forward to their sophomore album. Also because then their gigs will hopefully be a bit longer for that’s my only point of criticism: it was (too) short. Other highlights were – as already mentioned – Dan going into the crowd during Flaws and To Kill A King joining Bastille on stage for Pompeii. Also, I felt touched every time by the way Dan thanked the audience – I mean, every band does that, but not often do you feel it really comes from the heart. As I do not own a physical CD by TKAK * hangs head in shame *, I had printed out a picture for them to sign. They seem to have liked the idea, esp. Ralph – look here . We also took a photo and then stayed inside as long as the security would let us because we figured we’d be standing in the cold long enough to wait for Bastille. But it was SO worth it. They’re undoubtedly some of the nicest guys I’ve ever met, taking the time to chat, give autographs , take pictures and hug everyone who asked. As if that wasn’t enough to prove they really appreciate their fans, everyone got a personal „thank you for coming“ as well. Sigh. Just make another album and come back. Soon.
