She wasn't comparing it she was just saying that sometimes things aren't the way you expect them. Why are y'all suddenly dumb?
“Hey guys it’s Taylor. I wanna say congratulations to all of the graduates this year. I know this probably isn’t the kind of graduation you thought you were going to be having.. um, I relate to that in a lot of ways. When I was younger I used to fantasize about High School graduation and, you know, being with all of your friends and cap and gown and the whole thing, and then when I got to that point in my life, where graduation was coming up, I found myself on radio tour with my mom, in rental cars, sitting on the floors of airports and I ended up getting mailed my diploma. So it wasn’t exactly what I pictured, um, but i was still really proud of it and I guess one good lesson to come from this is expect the unexpected, but celebrate anyway.”
Okay I’ve now transcribed this just in case your speakers were broken or something. Lets break this down. Am I saying her intentions are evil? No. Am I saying she is an evil person who purposely made this pandemic about herself? No. WHAT IM SAYING is she is SO out of touch with our reality (”our” being, those who are NOT millionaire white women), that the only experience she could even try to relate to this is her missing her graduation due to the fact she was touring, making thousands of dollars, and rising to fame. To say this to millions of high schoolers, many who have lost loved ones in this pandemic, is entirely TONE DEAF. She may be well intentioned but this does NOT detract from the fact that she ultimately compared our 2020 graduate’s experience (not a choice) to her experience (which was a choice). She knew this would be broadcast and ultimately be a pretty historical event, but those are the words she chose. She could’ve said anything, in fact most of the speakers said some really touching and meaningful things without trying to relate this situation back to themselves. Do you not see the issue? Do you not see why we are upset? And this isn’t even TOUCHING on BLM (I don’t want to speak over black voices, please read their posts because I stand with them and I understand their hurt and frustration and anger.) So, I have a question for you, why do you have no critical thinking skills? Let me know.
