12 Months in Toronto: May 2019

Hey all, trying to get myself in gear for my final semester at U of T. Here’s 5 pages of watercolours documenting my adventures in Toronto last spring, the first month I started this project. 

In this month... - I attended a protest at Queen’s Park with my cohort against Doug Ford’s cuts; we were there on behalf of libraries - I got to enjoy a wide swath of green space and a beautiful view of the city in Riverdale - I was generously gifted tickets from a classmate to the Hockey Hall of Fame to see the Gretzky Howe exhibition (and obviously I went for Gretzky) - I attended the Toronto Comic Arts Festival at the Reference Library and was floored by how cool the concept was - I finally got to see the cherry blossoms (which I always leave before seeing in Vic and Toronto)  - I took a hike around Rosedale to do some exploring and admired the architecture of the old train station - I went to the Royal Ontario Museum to see the Gods In Our Home Exhibition (and then months later the designer presented to our class!) - I (don’t laugh) took myself out to sit in a cafe by myself for the literal first time in my life (after giving myself blisters sharpening pencil crayons in order to start this project)

12 Months in Toronto

1. May: Part 1

12 Months in Toronto (12MoTO) is a project I started to document my last year studying in Toronto, particularly the places I saw and the events I attended. 

Queens Park: Ontario’s parliament/legislature. I was there as part of a labour day protest on behalf of libraries, which are one of many things callously slashed by the current government for no benefit.

Riverdale: I took a walk here after dropping by a food market at a nearby community centre and took a moment to appreciate the view of downtown over the valley. 

This would have been finished way sooner but I literally gave myself the worst blister that took days to heal by sharpening all my pencil crayons ToT

1. May: Part 2

12 Months in Toronto (12MoTO) is a project I started to document my last year studying in Toronto, particularly the places I saw and the events I attended.

9 & 99: I was blessed with a generous offer of free tickets from a classmate who works at the Hockey Hall of Fame to see the Gretzky Howe exhibition, and for a homesick Edmontonian being surrounded by Gretzky was very restorative.

Cherry Blossoms: I always miss the cherry trees in Victoria because they bloom in February during term, so being stuck in Toronto in May certainly had its perks!

TCAF: I went to the Toronto Comic Arts Festival for the first time and it was overwhelming but AMAZING! I had a huge sense of excitement being there and I can’t wait until the renos on Stanley Milner finish back home,.. EdCAF would certainly have an audience, I think!

There’s some bonus tulips to fill up the bottom corner that I saw walking up University Ave from Union Station.
