Last weekend, I went on an architectural tour of downtown Houston put together by the group Preservation Houston. The tour got canceled less than halfway in because of heavy rain, but just seconds before it started pouring, I managed to get some photos of Houston's City Hall, built in 1939 in the Art Deco style. I darkened it in order to bring out the storm clouds and to try to give it a sense of menace.
The 1893 Norman House, north of Liberty, Texas. Recently, we had a dramatically overcast sky, so I took my camera along with me. After teaching a class, I went by the Sam Houston Regional Museum, where they have a collection of historic structures. With the barren trees and clouds behind, the Norman House was perfect.
