June 14, 2018 - Day 360
An early Father’s Day celebration with takeout and a beautiful evening.
14 June 2018
43 minutes at bedtime
Last night’s meditation was about the will to meditate. Seriously. The last 10 minutes or so, I kept going for another breath. Told myself that if I muster enough strength to ward of the pulls from the dreamy subconscious, I’ll be able to pay attention to the moving breath before me. It helped. Stopped close to the 45 minutes I had set myself up for.
Also, I did make efforts to watch my breath during the chores in the day. That helped too. Feeding the good habit with meditation during the waking and working hours, helps the good habit. Also, meditating through the day keeps you placed exactly in the present moment. Often, it takes me all my attention to watch one whole breath while loading the dish washer.
The habit of folding clothes, putting vessels in a washer, etc doesn’t need much effort on the mind. Once the habit is in place, the mind wanders to a yesterday or a possible tomorrow or something long forgotten. All of these don’t let you remain in the present.
Now I am wondering how mindfulness is different from ‘meditating all the time’. Will have to go and look up the technique of mindfulness before I can answer that for myself. Until later, goodbye. God bless us !
