It’s another Tuesday evening and Freckles the Port Townsend calico is making her way to the witch’s house. Not to see the witch in particular, but to see the crow-turned-human, Monty, that she recently has become friends with.
Freckles met him whilst he was collecting woodland trinkets to give to that new detective boy that came into town not too long ago. Eager to assist in any side quest which would break the monotonous tasks frequently assigned to her by The Cat King, Freckles volunteered to help Monty with his gift.
They talked a lot while they explored the untamed forest, looking for night-blooming flowers and river-smoothed rocks. Solitude, it seemed, was something they had in common. For, as a crow, Monty was never able to leave his cage - forever watching the witch concoct ever more evils plans to ensure a never ending youth for herself.
It was only now that he was human that he had some semblance of free will and action, and he told Freckles that he wanted to do the most good possible while he was able to - hence the trinket collection for the detective boy. Freckles had never met a crow that was so kind, she thought as he said this to her upon their first meeting.
Having both enjoyed each other’s company so very much, from then on they decided to make their woodland adventure a weekly occurrence. Continuing her walk down the evening-lit road, Freckles could not have been happier knowing she was on her way to meet with her new friend, and wondered what lovely conversation they’d share this time around.
(happy international cat day! this was so much fun to write!)
