Meet Artist in Resident Nov 14!! ROXY FARHAT (SE)
Name: Roxy Farhat Age: 31
Where in the world are you in this exact moment? Sitting on a bed in Malmö. It’s a glamorous life.
Tell us about your artistic practice! I work mainly with video and performance. Now that I think about it it’s been years since I included any kind of objects in my work. The topics are often political and somewhat autobiographical. Making people laugh is important, probably because I laugh at everything, even the things that make me cry can still make me laugh.
What ticks you!? Politicians. Aggravates me just thinking about them. And cops. Ugh.
How do you come up with new work/topics? Usually in conversation with my friends or from personal experiences, like things that bother me or are too stupid to be true but still are.
Do you have certain interests/subject matters that you tend to return to? I guess you could say various experiences of dehumanization is a common denominator in my work.
What Do You Do For Fun? Sleep? I don’t know why my body is fighting me on this. But no, hang out with my friends, eat good food and chill with my plants.
Dance or Dinner? Both!
Audio or Visual? Audio-visual
Rhythm or Bass? Why the either or?
What role does the artist have in society? I actually feel like that’s very unclear. Artists are both supposed to be some kind of saviors of society and a promise for the future while we’re also seen as vermin and slackers. We’re expected to have all the answers and to get a job.
What’s your favourite art work? The universe.
What should we talk more about? I don’t know if talking more is gonna help. We should talk less and put our actions where our words are.
What wouldn’t you do without? My friends and my mother.
