Squid
They found the tidepool on the third day.
It was wide and appeared shallow, though upon peering into it the concept of depth took on a new, nebulous meaning - the water was black, but one could still see through it like glass to the algae-covered stone beneath. Within, the only fauna they could detect was a single, tiny squid, no bigger than a thumbnail and glowing like a star.
