Loading a Big Piece
Harrisburg Telegraph Aug 24 1916, publishes this Ernest Brooks picture, IWM Q 896, showing Royal Marine Artillerymen using a winch to load a man-sized 15-inch shell weighing 635kg (1,400lbs) into a huge British gun.

This picture shows something of the intricate tackle necessary to place a giant shell into one of the big guns now being used by the British on the western front. Recent reports indicate that the British heavy artillery in the west is most effective and is playing a large part in the successes attending the new offensive.
