Today I am celebrating 15 years of employment with Universal Music Group. I've technically worked there off and on much longer, but this is my corporate start date. Through the ups and downs and the revolving door of executives, I am more than grateful to have been gainfully employed in this fickle industry for so long. I majored in Music Business and have actually been working in my field in some manner ever since. I started at UMG as a young, frustrated artist who had to pay that NYC rent. Now I am a grown woman with one album under her belt, countless writing credits and features, two Masters degrees, two years of doctoral study completed, and my own home. I was able to do all of this while working at UMG full-time, because I've stayed in my lane, kept my head down, and did the dang work. I've given them my best and still managed to save some room for myself. All praises to the Most High for keeping me through it all. Thank you to the folks at UMG who have believed in me and supported my gifts and abilities throughout the years. I did not think I would be this mushy about it as I can get cynical about it all from time to time. But when I stop and think about it, I am overcome with gratitude. I do not take it for granted.
